People! What do you see?

Hello and Welcome!

Day 38 of my 365 Day Photography Journey.

As a photographer I look at people differently then when I'm not. We talk about people watching but to what extent do we inquire. not verbally but mentally? Do we take the time to ask questions of interest, empathy and concern, or do we look to amuse ourselves?

The image above is a of a bee keeper in the Riverside area. I don't know her name. Where has she been? Who's waiting at home for her? Does she have kids, or maybe grand kids? How long has she worked at keeping bees? Was it a hobby that grew? Did she grow up wanting to be a doctor or a truck driver? Maybe she just grew up wanting to be someones princess?

Does this man enjoy his job? Does he have a wife at home? Does he have a home? Where was he born? Does we want to go home? Does he miss his home town?

Best friends forever? Planning a party? Married? What are their dreams?

Where's he going and who will be there when he arrives? What did or does he do for a living? Has he lost love ones? Is there someone he misses?

Where does he want to be? Who does he want to be with? What does he want to say, to a close one? Where's he going to be tonight?

Does he have family? What do they call him? What have his eyes seen in his life time? Who was his first love? Does he still think about days when he was young?

Where's she from? Where's she going? Does her family know where she is? Does she have kids of her own? What are her goals?

Will he be with us tomorrow? Are they depressed? Are they at peace? I wonder if they need my help? Can I help them?

What does she dream of? Where is she going to be in 10 years? Will she be pleased with her progress in life?

What motivates him? What motivates her? Why did they stop to listen? Why does he feel the need to share? What was his childhood like? Did he play baseball?

Does he like his photo taken? Does she like her photo taken? What kind of life have you experienced? The camera can only tell me what the light was doing at the time of capture. It tells me nothing about your history and that which makes you.

Why are you here? Where would you like to ride? Are these others your friends? Did you get in a fight with any of them over something stupid?

?

Reflections are what the worlds sees, light reflecting off a surface, but not who and what they are. To know us you must dig. None of the images above tells you what makes that person. Do you care?

Make a Great Day!

The Joy of Cooking

Hello and Welcome!

Day 37 of my 365 Day Photography Journey
"Marion Rombauer Becker, Ethan Becker, Irma Rombauer wrote the book, The Joy of Cooking, and they couldn't have titled it any better.

Maybe it goes back to my love of creating but cooking food for others really gives me a wonderful sense of satisfaction. Watching their faces as they dig in, the comments and the moans of enjoyment, is the best feeling. We have to eat, right? Why not make it healthy and enjoyable? Okay more healthy then fast food.

The aromas that start filling the house. It's obvious to everyone, somethings in the creation process. Their stomachs start to growl, their mouth starts to water and they are checking my progress regularly. "Do you need anything sampled?" I usually beat them to it. "Would you tell me how this is coming along?" As I raise the spoon to their lips.
I really like using fresh herbs. Fresh herbs add some much to a dish. I've bought them fresh at the store but they're so expensive. I finally got smart and planted some. You can read about it in an earlier blog.

This is the original pot of herbs. I didn't think this would make it through the season, so I decided to expand my herb garden and planted seeds. I was surprised to see how fast they sprouted. See the images below.
This night I made spaghetti with a turkey meat sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, chopped zucchini, fresh parsley, garlic, thyme and sage, all on a bed of whole wheat pasta, yum. We picked up a fresh french loaf. I put butter, fresh parsley and grated Parmesan  on it. We were so hungry we didn't stop to take photos of the finished product, which makes me chuckle. Oh well, maybe next time.

Tell someone you love them and cook for them!

Make a great day?

Baby Chives - Lee says, chives are an excuse to have a baked potato. I have to agree.

The feel of a pen in hand

Hello and Welcome.

Day 36 of my 365 Day Photography Journey.

For those new to my blog, I may have photographic images at the center of my blog or just my thoughts (which will still have an image of mine). Either way I hope you enjoy your time here.

I love to write. I don't mean write as a writer would sit down to create a novel, but write for the sack of writing and looking at my thoughts on paper. Grabbing a pen, in this case an ink well pen, and some paper and writing. It's not like writing on the PC for writing's sake, it's about holding the pen and applying ink to paper. It's great therapy, helps me stay creative and helps me remember things I want to remember.

I carry the notebook above, with me everywhere. I like to keep it close in case a brilliant idea pops into my head. Lately, it's been used for blog ideas.

Using the calligraphy pen has the bonus of a artistic touch to my thoughts. Calligraphy comes from two Greek words meaning beauty and write. I've been using a calligraphy pen for about 20 years now.

When I sit at the computer to write I find myself searching the web for this and that, finding focus difficult to come by. Sitting with only my pen and paper keeps me focused, if not careful I could write for hours about the things going on in my head. I know it's a scary thought. Writing in this manor fills a creative need as well.
I enjoy creating things. Each letter, word, sentence and page is a thing created. It's just a bonus if someone else enjoys it as I do.

Make a great day or at least write about what you think a great day would be. It might be the beginning of a new journey for you. Put it to pen.

Did someone say, "Good book?"

Hello!

Day 35 of my 365 Day Photography Journey.

I'm very particular when it comes to reading books. Books need to be flawless, and I don't mean free from typos. I mean the story needs to be solid, consistent and true to it's form. Characters need a personality, depth and a since of believability.

I read to experience whatever the author wanted to share with me. Within the first few pages of a book I can tell how important it was for that author to share with me. Sadly, so many are writing to just make money, which is their right and need. For me to enjoy a book, I need to feel the heart of the author so much, I don't feel as if I'm reading at all. I'm experiencing what the author experienced in their heart and mind. Then so eloquently expresses with a pen that is clearly distinguishable from (I almost inserted the word "Drabble" thinking it to express poorly written word but after a trip to the dictionary, it's clearly not the word I had always thought it to be) a dime store novel, or in today's world mass produced "fiction." J.R.R. Tolkien spent over 20 years writing the Lord of the Ring Series. The words float off the page with poetic and romantic lore. This truly is a master piece of literature.

I enjoy books that make you think, both philosophically and educationally. I like hearing ideas in a non threatening or derogatory manor what someone feels or believes. I like being forced to use the dictionary while reading, not that I'll remember the word's meaning next time. The joys of getting older.

I'm currently reading Ulysses, by James Joyce. Oh my, talk about an exciting challenging read.

Ulysses is a work of fiction that's set in Ireland, over the course of a day. So the challenge is not only the period "English," the Greek and Italian phrasing, but the Irish slang. The characters are true to their nature and draw you in and keep you there.

"He skipped off the gunrest and looked gravely at his watcher, gathering about his legs the loose folds of his gown. The plump shadowed face and sullen oval jowl recalled a prelate, patron of arts in the middle ages. A pleasant smile broke quietly over his lips." Page 4, 1st paragraph.

There's nothing like holding the book you're actually reading. I have a digital reader (if you get one, make sure it's back lit or illuminated), it's just not the same as holding the book. Technology has it's place but it doesn't belong everywhere.

What are you reading right now? Have you added words to your spell checker?

Make a great day.

Sit with me, please.

Hello,

Day 34 of my 365 Day Photography Journey.

Sit with me, please.

"Sit with me please.
What are you thinking about?
Don't the clouds look wonderful?
I so enjoy the green leaves against the brilliant blue sky.
Some birds came by earlier, but you weren't here to see them.
Look over there, kids playing tag.
Sit with me, please.
The cutest young couple spent an hour with me talking about their life plans.
I see you brought a book. What's it about?
Can't concentrate? I understand.
Oh I hate to see you cry. It'll be okay.
It does look like the weather's changing.
I understand. I hope to see you tomorrow.
Sit with me, please," said the park bench.

I hope you enjoyed the poem.

Make a great day.

The Turtle Cam!

Hello!

Day 33 of my 365 Day Photography Journey

I'm not sure if you've heard but we have turtles now. You can read about them here at Lee's blog, Our turtles well rather a turtle now, RIP Leonardo.

Well Leeanne told me this morning she had a project. "What was it?" I asked. "A Turtle cam," she stated, "I can turn my laptop into a turtle cam and watch him bask on the rocks." I chuckled, like most times.

She disappeared for about 30 minutes and then smiling from ear to ear came to show me her iPhone, which was displaying a live video stream of her turtle habitat.

All morning long, the turtle would move and do something, she'd show me her phone, "Look he's basking!" "Oh look he moved." How can you not love it? She says now she can check on him when she's not home.

The Turtle habitat and the laptop with the camera live feeding.

I remarked, "Oh yeah, you have internet at the office so you can check on him during a break." "We could facetime now that you have internet," I remarked. She replied, "Why would we need to do that?"

Make a great day.

Just a thunder cloud

Hello!

Day 32 of 365 Day Photography Journey.

Did you see the storm last night? It was pretty massive but to far away to photograph.

I got one photo before it got dark.

Make a Great Day!
